Friday Night Movies #5 The Bourne Legacy

The Bourne Legacy Movie Review

This is the fourth instalment of the Bourne series and most of us were unsure if a Bourne movie could be possible without Matt Damon. The standard set by Matt Damon was extremely high. So when Jeremy Renner was named the main star I'll admit I was upset ,but eventually accepted it. The first thing I noticed is that the plot of this movie seems a bit like the fourth Mission Impossible. The company that created the program suddenly wants to dissolve and terminate all of the operatives, sound familiar? But other than about twenty minutes that seemed  a bit dull this movie is action packed and a thrill ride from beginning to end. The main character Aaron Cross played by Jeremy Renner has the same set of skill and abilities as Jason Bourne. The main difference between the two characters is that Aaron Cross knows who he is and Jason Bourne had to discover who he was. Obviously the writers are stating that these are two different  individuals and the plot clearly states that multiple times. In addition the casting of Jeremy Renner was spot on. He played the part to the tee. Honestly, I was expecting the Mission Impossible Jeremy Renner ,but instead I got a whole new role. He walked as if he could not only kill you, but knew he would kill you. The look of intensity he had throughout the entire film made it that much greater. In conclusion the only down side to this movie is that their wasn't enough action scenes. The original three films was one fight scene after another so to me they focused to much on the company and what the company was going to do next. So more explosions, shootings and Russel Crowe in a gladiator costume. So the action this movie had was intense but needed more of it. Adding this or Russel Crowe would probably make this the best Bourne film yet. The Bourne Legacy gets a 7 out of 10 only for the few dull moments ,but all in all a great movie. Jeremy Renner deserves a big yes if he wants to do a follow up film possibly with Matt Damon?
